Conferences
View/Complete the Student Growth Plan
Dear Students and Parents:
We hold our student-parent-teacher conferences to discuss the next steps in each student’s academic growth. In preparation for these conferences, we ask students to develop a Student Growth Plan (SGP). The SGP is a document that captures the themes of the student evaluations, puts them into context, and documents the key area the student chooses as an area for growth in the coming year. Whether the student earns “straight A’s” or is failing, or anywhere in between, he or she is likely aware of an area where growth would bring them greater effectiveness as a student or greater joy in learning.
After writing the SGP, we ask that students attend their conferences to share and discuss the plan with their teachers and parents. During the conference, students will share why they choose a specific area for growth and receive feedback and support for teachers and parents. Some students may choose to modify their plans after the conference consultation.
The “Action Menu” link below provides two lists. The first contains 14 Learning Techniques that Research Shows to be Most Effective. The second list is categorized to provide a long list of ideas a student might choose to employ in their growth plan. The “Student Growth Plan” link provides the single sheet plan, to be filled in, and the instructions for completing each part.
It is my sincerest hope that will continue to grow as scholars throughout this process.
Thank you,
Dan Schutten
Headmaster
2024 Conference Week Information
Conferences will take place on October 14-15, 2024. Parents will receive an email in late-September with a link to sign-up for their student(s) grade-level conference(s). Conference sign-ups will close on Saturday, October 12; after this date you will need to contact the front office for conference availability.
Conferences are not mandatory. Therefore if you are unable or do not plan on attending, please review the Student Growth Plan as a family and have the student select one teacher to share their plan with. Students should wear their uniform to the conference.
Conferences are offered based on a student’s grade and Lit/Comp or HL teacher to ensure teacher availability. The 20-minute conference isn’t only with the Lit/Comp or HL teacher, it is with all your student’s teachers. Students are expected to attend the conference with their parents as discussion will be student-led.
Evaluations will be available for viewing in the Powerschool Parent Portal by 5pm on the Friday before conferences. Parents should share the evaluations with their student and the student should read and reflect on their teachers’ comments before completing a Student Growth Plan form. A hard copy of the Student Growth Plan will be sent home with students next week and is available on our website. Students can use the posted Action Menu for ideas. These action ideas were generated by teachers for their specific subject area.
When coming for your student’s fall conference, please have your student bring his/her Growth Plan with them. Students will present their plans to their teachers and receive feedback. Parents, teachers and students will then talk as a group.
If you have any questions, please contact the Trivium Prep front office.
